Biohacking: What it is

Biohacking is a term created to describe do-it-yourself biology. In short terms, these are “hacks” used for human enhancement to better one’s mental and/or physical health. Typically these biohacks mimic an ancestral practice that has been lost in the modern world. For example, PEMF or Pulse Electro Magnetic Field therapy mimics grounding or earthing which balances the electrical charges in the body.

Biohacking: How it can help

In our modern world, we have lost touch with much of our earth’s natural healing properties due to our busy schedules, constant screen exposure, sedentary lifestyles, and lack of time spent outdoors. Biohacking is here to mitigate many of the negative consequences we face from such a vast shift from our ancestral lifestyle.

How to get started with Biohacking

Have you ever participated in an exercise program or followed a diet with a certain goal in mind? If so, you have already used biohacking in its simplest form: controlling your actions for a specific result to the body’s physiology. We know that what we eat or how we move our body has a scientifically predictable and measurable effect on our physical state. Additionally, when we take supplements, take deep breaths to lower our heart rate and relax, or when we use a smartwatch to track steps or sleep and make improvements in those areas, we are already biohacking!

Here are some other techniques to explore to become a biohacking rockstar and enhance your own wellness routine!

Biohack Age

Don’t we all want to slow the hands of time and look and feel our best for as long as possible? Age biohacking focuses on cellular health and regeneration to slow the signs of aging and extend our longevity. Red Light Therapy, Cryotherapy, Contrast Therapy, and supplements containing coenzyme Q10, polyphenols, and L-carnitine are all available to help in the aging department. At Swift Recovery, we also offer PNOE Metabolic testing which will help you accurately assess where you stand with your biological age and track the progress you are making from your efforts to slow the aging process.

Biohack Sleep and Energy Levels

You cannot be full of energy if you are not well-rested, and so many of us either don’t get the recommended amount of sleep or suffer from chronic stress which is draining our natural energy. Energy-related biohacking techniques include light therapy and cold therapy for circadian rhythm regulation, the use of sleep tracking devices, meditation apps, and devices, like the VibroAcoustic soundbed, and supplements such as B12 and Magnesium.

Biohack Physical Health

As discussed, exercise itself is biohacking as it has numerous benefits at the cellular level. Athletes or anyone wanting to boost performance and speed recovery can choose from an array of modalities that will gain them a competitive edge and accelerate recovery from strenuous workouts or after an injury. Contrast Therapy in the Infrared Sauna and Cold Plunge will soothe sore muscles and joint pain, as well as reduce inflammation. PEMF is like charging the battery on your cells and can drastically reduce pain and cut recovery time from injuries.

Swift Recovery is Here to Help!

We all desire to be the absolute best version of ourselves, and biohacking lets us take an active role in becoming just that. By adding certain practices into our routines we can increase our ability to perform at our peak state, and enhance our overall quality of life! We don’t have to leave the status of our health to luck and can shift our systems to perform more optimally and efficiently with the power of biohacking.
